Just wondering what you guys think of this feature suggestion,
Jpeg-XR support for textures?
Jpeg-XR is an open image format is similar to Web-P in features. It supports:
* Better lossy compression than JPEG
* Lossy + Transparency
* Lossless Support
* high performance and lightweight
Unlike Web-P however, Jpeg-XR also has support for a broad range of pixel formats such as RGB565 (among many others) which I imagine would be pretty handy for games. Notably Flash Player already supports Jpeg-XR in part due to RGB565 support: http://blog.kaourantin.net/?p=116
Microsoft have an open source BSD licenced implementation of Jpeg-XR anyone can use:
You can read more about it on the Wikipedia page:
I know you guys already support Web-P so maybe this isn’t of much interest, but I think there could decent advantage due to natively supporting many more pixel formats so I thought it was worth a mention, especially given it would be very easy to implement.
