@raydelto was kind enough to send me a copy of his new book “Building Android Games with Cocos2d-x”.
Pros:
- quick, easy read, the author’s wording is clear.
- This book is Android specific in terms of deployment and to this point I felt like I learned more about Android than I knew before.
- The breakdown of the chapters in the book felt like a natural progression. I didn’t feel like the chapters jumped around leaving “gaps”, things are well connected.
Cons:
- The code formatting is hard to read and hard to follow. I had to use a ruler when looking at the code. I had a similar complaint with another book I reviewed. This might be an issue with Packt Publishing.
- it covers a number of experimental features with Cocos2d-x and these are subject to change therefore without an errata the book would be outdated.
I think this book is especially beneficial read to those targeting Android. You do gain other Cocos2d-x knowledge along the way
