ASTC (Adaptive Scalable Texture Compression) is the Google’s officially recommended texture compression for Android, with the prerequisite of supporting the the Android Extension Pack (included since Lollipop, ~84.7% distribution of Android devices are running beyond this version):

On the other hand, Apple supports ASTC since the release of the A8 processor:

Plus they have announced their future iOS devices will not use PowerVR GPUs, meaning the widely used hardware accelerated pvr formats would no longer be advantaged in the near future.


Any thoughts?


Switching to Unity and Godot. I have been using cocos for 6 years, but the developing team keeps disappointing me.
