How do you make your shapes for box2d?

Hi!
I was wondering about how you are creating your physics shapes for box2d? Like do you make them yourselves by code or using a software like PhysicsEditor or what do you do? I need some ideas of when to do what and why… and i know that when creating the more complex shapes for things like a car etc., you have to use multiple convex shapes and then combine them however, i imagine that that would be pretty confusing at times.
