As you all might know I am the author of Learning Cocos2d-x Game Development published by packt. the book is initially written using version 2.3.3. Due to many requests (and also because v3.3 is so awesome :)) the code has been ported to 3.3 release. It Also includes optimized code and implementation of Spine, Texture Packer, Glyph Designer and Particle Designer tools completely intact.
I will also be updating my blog with the changes I had to make while porting from version 2.2.3 to 3.3. Honestly it really wasn’t much. You can follow my blog here: http://www.growlgamesstudio.tumblr.com/ for latest updates.
It does cover using tools like spine(esoteric software), texturepacker & physics editor (code’n web), glyph designer & particle designer(71 squared). As this book is targeting towards new users advanced topics like plugin-x and facebook integration are not included. We are planning to write a cookbook which might cover those topics.
Just bought your book. Misread the text and thought you updated the whole book. But I am pretty happy I bought it anyways. Great topics… actually more than I expected. This will help me a lot!
I hope you write the cookbook. I will buy it immediately!
I am really glad you liked the book. you can chek my blog as I will be updating it with the changes between 2.2.x and 3.3. it will fill the gaps between the 2 version of cocos2d-x. Will kepp you guys posted on the cookbook update. thanks and enjoy the book.
Hi @siddharthshekar!
I learned a lot from your book. Can you please provide some skeletal animation tutorial for cocos2d-x V 3.3, using “Dragon Bones”?
As you know that is free as compared to Spine…And can prove a good startup for newbiez
Hi!. Thanks for buying the book and great that you learn a lot from the book.
I am not very familiar with dragon bones I mean to look into it as I plan to make games/ animation using skeletal animation system rather than sprite based animations. Also Since spine is a bit expensive(atleast the pro version is) side I am looking at other tools for skeletal animation. I will check it out and maybe write a blog about my views on dragon bones and how it compares to Spine here http://growlgamesstudio.tumblr.com/
@siddharthshekar First of all great book for newbies. Looking forward to the advanced cookbook. Have you used Spriter or know of any tutorials of using Spriter for Cocos2dX?
